PSG Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (PSG IMS&R), is one of the premier institutes of PSG & sons’ Charities Trust. While PSG IMSR is a 34 year old Institution, the PSG & Sons’ Charities Trust is one of the oldest in the country. The trust was established in the year 1926 to bring in social changes through education, and nurtures about 30 educational Institutions with a strong record of academic credentials, and research.

PSG IMSR, since its inception in 1985, serves as an integrated centre of medical education, training, development and research. Apart from offering training in undergraduate, and various postgraduate disciplines, the Institute has constantly focused on research, both in education and biomedical areas. PSGIMSR is one of the only few regional centers in the world of FAIMER (Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research), USA and is the first institution to go for the 3G Simulation Center for the medical students training and research.

The PSG Center for Research and Bioethics was established in the year 2015 to foster national and international collaboration and build Institutional capacity in research and bioethics. The one year Postgraduate Diploma in Bioethics, which is one of the few formal academic programs in the country is offered through this center. The Institutional Human Ethics Committee is the first committee in Southern India to be recognized by SIDCER. The committee also is registered with OHRP and has FWA. The Institute is also a member of the Global consortium on Climate and Health Education an initiative of Columbia Mailman School of Public Health.

The PSG Center for Molecular Medicine and Therapeutics (PSG CMMT) houses a state of the art molecular genetics lab with facilities to carry out basic molecular genetics, bio-analytical and cell culture studies. PSG CMMT has several funded projects from National funding agencies such as Indian Council of Medical Research, Department of Biotechnology and International agencies such as NIH. The major thrust areas of research include Non communicable diseases such as Diabetes Mellitus, Breast cancer (Environmental Epigenetics) and cardiovascular diseases and communicable diseases such as Dengue fever and tuberculosis.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, PSG Hospitals was the largest centre and offered IP care to more than 17000 patients with successful outcomes. The hospitals’ infection control committee is involved in planning, monitoring, evaluating, updating, and educating on antibiotic usage.

It is a matter of pride that PSG Institute of Medical Sciences & Research has been ranked within the top 50 medical colleges of India as per the National Institute Ranking Framework. It offers MBBS course with 250 admissions and is the most sought after medical college in the private sector. MD/MS programs are offered in all disciplines except Forensic medicine. There are 4 DM programs too.

A medical college hospital also requires specialists to be on duty and be available within the hospital 24 hours a day. There is a strong emphasis on research, both clinical and molecular. In fact, the institution has an advanced research lab, with several national and international funded projects. Finally, the hospital has a state of the art simulation lab, which allows doctors to continuously hone their skills and practice procedures.
